Called Meeting

The Stephens County Board of Commissioners held a Called Meeting, Wednesday, February 22, 2006 at 1:00 p.m... In attendance was Commissioners Steve Chitwood, Kenneth Peeples and Rex Anderson, Darrell Hampton, County Administrator and Phyllis Ayers, Finance Director.

Commissioner Chitwood called the meeting to order.

Commissioner Chitwood welcomed those in attendance.

Commissioner Chitwood called for a motion to approve the agenda. Commissioner Peeples made a motion to approve the agenda; the motion was seconded by Commissioner Anderson and unanimously approved.

The first item of business was to consider a request from Dr. Beverly Sparks for additional funding to assist in the selection of a new County Agent. County Administrator Darrell Hampton commented that the Extension Service interviewed a candidate to the fill this position. Hampton further noted that he and Commissioner Chitwood had the opportunity to sit in on the interview and were very impressed. The request from Dr. Sparks is for an increase in the salary provided by Stephens County and for an increase in the travel allowance. Mr. Hampton noted that the travel allowance provided was lower than other communities and would be addressed in the upcoming budget process. He further noted that the overall expense of this request was approximately $7,000, noting that he and the Finance Director had conferred on the request, noting that there were funds available to provide for this request. Based upon the information provided Commissioner Anderson made a motion to approve the increase in funding as requested, the motion was seconded by Commissioner Peeples and unanimously approved.

The next item on the agenda was to discuss a pending personnel matter. Commissioner Peeples made a motion to go into Executive Session to discuss a personnel matter; the motion was seconded by Commissioner Anderson and unanimously approved. The Commission went into Executive Session at 1:15 p.m. The Commission came out of Executive Session at 3:10 p.m. Commissioner Peeples made a motion directing staff to prepare and deliver an offer regarding the County Clerk position, the motion was seconded by Commissioner Anderson and unanimously approved.

They’re being no other business to come before the Commissioner the meeting was adjourned at 3:15 p.m.
